Lib Dems bag the credit

Plastic carrier bags have hit the news. The first six months since the 5p charge was introduced has led to the number of single-use carrier bags issued falling to half a billion. It was 7 billion last year. (1)

What is often not reported is that it is down to the Liberal Democrats in Government that this policy happened.

Lib Dem leader, Tim Farron, said: "We always said the test of this policy would be by the amount of bags that are cut from public consumption and the funds raised for charities - on both these tests this policy has passed."

Membership surge

Political earthquakes such as last year's General Election and the recent EU Referendum have shaken many people. Ordinary people feel that they have to do something positive. You can see this in the way that membership of the Liberal Democrats has grown.

We thought that we were living in a country in harmony with itself and its neighbours, only to find that our society has become deeply divided and without any clear view of what the future holds.

Lib Dems offer a way forward for disappointed West Suffolk voters

The result of the EU Referendum was devastating and we now have a deeply divided country. The LiberalDemocrats have always stood for a fair, free and open society and healing this division is a major concern for us.

The Lib Dems will fight next election on a policy of returning Britain to the EU. Leader Tim Farron said: "I want to make clear that the Liberal Democrats will fight the next election on a clear and unequivocal promise to restore Britain’s prosperity and role in the world, with the United Kingdom in the European Union, not outside it."
