The result of the EU Referendum was devastating and we now have a deeply divided country. The LiberalDemocrats have always stood for a fair, free and open society and healing this division is a major concern for us.
The Lib Dems will fight next election on a policy of returning Britain to the EU. Leader Tim Farron said: "I want to make clear that the Liberal Democrats will fight the next election on a clear and unequivocal promise to restore Britain’s prosperity and role in the world, with the United Kingdom in the European Union, not outside it."
In an article in the Guardian, Tim Farron said of the Lib Dems: "Britain desperately needs a functioning, progressive, economically credible, internationalist party that believes passionately about social justice as well." (1)
Meanwhile, people throughout West Suffolk have been moved to take positive action over the state we now find the country in. For many, joining the Liberal Democrats has been the first step. Membership of the West Suffolk Liberal Democrats is up by a third since 23rd June. Nationally, there have been over 16,000 new members.
